Grid Reference: O 259 262

Registration will be at the furthest/southern-most point from the entrance in the car park.

There is ample parking.

Start Times:
You can start any time between 6:30pm – 7:30pm. If you are a slower competitor please consider starting closer to 6:30pm. The organisers plan to take in controls starting at 7:45pm with all controls in by 8:15pm.

Post Orienteering Refreshments:
Given the area’s proximity to Dalkey we have booked some seating in ‘The Club’ pub in Dalkey (rather than tea/biscuits at the event). Food is available (http://www.theclubdalkey.com/evening-menu/). The Club is on Coliemore Road (https://goo.gl/maps/8RyrJR8fmT52). Parking is available in a small car park opposite the front door, on-street throughout Dalkey or in the Church of the Assumption.

Map & Courses:
A4 in size, scale 1:5,000 with 5m contours. Printed on recycled waterproof paper (there is an old map on the back). The map has had minor updates made in recent weeks. For those who’ve orienteered here previously (last event Feb 2013), much of the detail – particularly in the forest – has altered a bit (eg crags overgrown). As a result much of the navigation on the Long course will be (hopefully) more about route choice than fine detailed navigation. The Short course is easier in terms of navigation.
Long Course: 3.7km
Short Course: 1.8km
Control Descriptions will be available loose at registration.

Beginners & Juniors:
For insurance purposes this event is open only to 16 years and older. If you’re new to orienteering, have a headlight and are up for adventure let the organisers know and they will show you what to do. If you’re afraid of being out in a forest after dark try the next day-time orienteering instead! Unfortunately, due to the nature of the terrain, this event is not buggy friendly.
– You don’t have to be in a club to take part
– you can go in pairs, groups or individually (bring a friend!)

Adult: €8 (€6 for club members)
Junior/Student/OAP/Concession: €5
Family: €20

There is a €2 discount for any participant who is already a member of an orienteering club. You can join GEN here today, membership is free for the first year.
By joining a club you can avail of discounted gear (eg the SI card) and meet others and share training, lifts etc.

Results will be published on www.orienteering.ie

Event Officials:
Organiser: Mary Healy
Planner: Gavan Doherty

Orienteering is an adventure sport. You take part at your own risk and you are responsible for your own safety. In the event of inclement weather this event may be cancelled at short notice – check this website before travelling. The organisers may require you to carry a rain jacket so please come prepared. You must report to the finish even if you do not get all the controls.

GEN Orienteering club are grateful to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for permission to hold this event and AJAX Orienteering club for graciously sharing their map with us.

Please bring you waste home with you – do not expect the organisers to take it away for you.

Leinster League Event in Trooperstown – Sunday December 10th

UPDATE (Dec 10th 8:45am). Unfortunately the road from Kilmacanogue to Laragh is snow covered. TROOPERSTOWN EVENT IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

UPDATE (Saturday 9th Dec, 1pm). At present the Trooperstown event is going ahead, controls are being put out. The snow forecast will not affect course safety which are mostly in the forest.

The only risk is of the roads to Trooperstown being impassable. Wicklow County Council advise that they have snow ploughs to clear the main roads but we will know better in the morning.
GEN will update the GEN website (www.genorienteeringclub.com) tomorrow morning (Sunday) by 9:15am advising or road viability (Kilmacanogue -> Laragh).

GEN is organising the final event in the 2017 Leinster League on Sunday 10th December, near Laragh, Co Wicklow.

After Roundwood you pass through Annamoe. 2.6km after Annamoe, you will see a Coillte sign for Trooperstown on your left (opposite the Trooperstown Lodge B&B). Turn in here. If you get to Laragh you have gone too far, turn back, and the turn is now on your right after 1.6km. When you turn off the R755, leave the Mountain Rescue building on your left and continue down a rough road until you get to the car park. Don’t go over the bridge, registration is in the car park before the bridge.
