Junior Home International 2016

Well done to two junior members, Eadaoin McCavana and Cliodhna Donaghy who were selected to represent Ireland in the recent Junior Home International at

30220924935_74d4b0ce07_zSimonside and Slaley Hall Estate in Northumberland on the weekend 8th/9th October.  The Irish team took third place, bringing home the Judith Wingham Trophy for the Irish-Welsh competition.

Pictured is Cliodhna (W14) who was representing Ireland for her first  29928395950_b01506bab0_ztime.

Eadaion (W18), seen here at the final control was competing in her 5th JHI.

Both were competing in the individula event on the Saturday, followed by the relay on day 2.

Trooperstown – Sunday 6th December 2015

GEN is running the 5th event in the Leinster League on Sunday 6th December in Trooperstown, (near Laragh, Co Wicklow).
Suitable for:
Experienced orienteers and beginners, adults, children and family groups.  If you planning to bring a large group, please contact us at
If you have never orienteered or navigated before you are very welcome – We recommend you read the IOA FAQ on and ask for some advice and guidance from any of the event officials.  We will be happy to help.
Start Times:
You can start any time between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Yellow 1.5 km – suitable for parents with children, experienced juniors and novice/ramblers
Orange 2.2 km – as per the Yellow but slightly trickier/longer
Red 4.5 km – for runners/strong walkers who would like an introduction to navigation
Light Green 3.3 km – for experienced orienteers
Green 4.1 km – for experienced orienteers
Blue 5.7 km – for experienced orienteers
Brown 7.0 km – for experienced orienteers

€8 for adults (+€2 to hire the SI card required), €5 for children, unwaged, 65+, €20 for family group.
There is no pre-entry for this event; just turn up and register on the day.
Turn off the N11 at Kilmacanogue heading South following signs for Roundwood, Laragh & Glendalough along the R755.
After Roundwood you pass through Annamoe. 2.6km after Annamoe, you will see a Coillte sign for Trooperstown on your left (opposite the Trooperstown Lodge B&B). Turn in here at the ‘Orienteering’ Signpost (Grid reference T155 972). If you get to Laragh you have gone too far, turn back, and the turn is now on your right after 1.6km. When you turn off the R755 into Trooperstown, leave the Mountain Rescue building on your left and continue down a rough road following the parking signs.
